Michelle “Chef MiMi” Mathews was born August 24, 1971 to Wilbert and Rose Juanita Mathews.
She attended Howard University where she studied Psychology; she later graduated from DeVry University in 2002 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. Michelle worked as an Administrative Assistant and later as a Business Analyst for nearly 2 decades before going to culinary school. She left her job in 2012 to pursue her passion for cooking full-time. In 2013 she graduated from the St. Joseph’s Culinary Training Program, where she learned the technique of French cooking from Chef Derek B Walker, Chopped Champion.
She has spent the last several years catering and developing a variety of menus. She has planned and coordinated events for over 100 people. In 2010, she formed Better than Just Homecooking Catering (now Chef MiMi’s Catering), providing delicious food that is pleasing to the palate as well as the eye.
Chef MiMi enjoys transforming everyday food into food art. She is currently studing various food art techniques. Her most notable are her strawberry flowers and candy cakes.
Her father passed away in 1991 to stomach cancer and her mother remarried in 2002. She was raised in Compton, CA, with her two brothers Michael-Ray and the late Myron Mathews.
Michelle currently lives in Los Angeles and is the proud mother of one daughter Nandi Renee Mathews.
